Land, Nation, and Law

For two millenia the Nation of Israel has wandered–homeless, landless. The exile took its toll, changing the Nation of G-d into a religion, a dogma like any other. There was Law (Torah) and there were people who followed it, but the Nation fizzled. Without land it is impossible to continue as a nation in the eyes of the world and the idea of religious culture with binding laws took hold. The Land of Israel yearned for its Nation to return long after the Nation turned the idea of a return into a mere dream, not to be taken seriously. The Law (Torah) of the exile was only that-Law. Without a true worldly expression Nation and Law suffered from an inner sort of disease pushing the dream of redemption into a vault, not to be unlocked until some unbearable time.

In Tanach (the bible) Rachel (one of the matriarchs of the Nation of Israel) cries for her children in exile. It is her tears that have drawn the Nation home to its Land. The Land has welcomed the Nation back, giving it fruits from its soil, nursing the nation back to health.

The Sages have said the Land of Israel, the Nation of Israel, and the Torah of Israel are intrinsically linked to one another, meaning when the Nation is weak then its hold on the Land is weakened and its comprehension of the Torah is left incomplete. When its hold on the Land is incomplete then its grasp of the Torah is incomplete and the Nation is weakened. When its Torah is left incomplete then the Nation is weakened and its hold on the Land is left weakened and incomplete. The word Echad (אחד) “one” in hebrew equals 1012 when the letter alef(א) is taken out and spelled out (אלף). Which is the same word as the hebrew word for 1000. 1012 is also the numerical equivalent of עם, תורה,ארץ Land, Torah, Nation in Hebrew. The faster the Nation of Israel and the world understand the link between these three things the faster the redemptive process of our world can return to its proper trajectory.
